1st Lanark Boys Brigade
St Nicholas Parish Church , Castlegate , ML11 9DZ- Anchor Boys (Primary 1–3)
- Junior Section (Primary 4-7)
- Senior Section ( Secondary School)
The Boys Brigade in Lanark meets every Wednesday evening in St Nicholas Church Hall.
We’re split into 3 sections across the age ranges.
The Anchor Section meets between 6pm and 7pm and is aimed at boys aged between 5 and 7 (Primary 1–3).
The Junior Section takes over from them and is on between 7.15pm and 8.30pm and is for boys aged between 8 and 11 (Primary 4-7).
The Senior Section is also on at the same time and is for boys of Secondary School age.
Our aim is to provide boys in all the sections with an experience of life beyond what is possible in school or at home, whilst at the same time provide the opportunity for fellowship amongst the boys.
All the leaders are trained and subject to full Disclosure Scotland checks.
We hope that by giving the boys a programme of exciting events, fun and games and the opportunity to take part in external visits and community projects as well as exploring their faith, that the boys and young people can discover and develop their potential.
If you think that you’d like to take part in this exciting experience, then feel free to come along to the St Nicholas Church Hall. We’d love to see you there!
If you’d like further information then get in touch!

If you are interested in flying and hopefully building radio controlled model aircraft, then membership of a club is in reality the only way that this can be achieved. Any attempt to fly without proper instruction will inevitably end in costly failure and in all likelihood danger to yourself and others. Although the advent of 'Almost Ready to Fly' trainers has made the beginner's life less complicated, a considerable commitment in terms of time and money is still required.
Before spending any money, why not come along to the club field and have a chat with the existing members. We have no time restrictions on our site and although most activity takes place at weekends, there are often members present during weekday afternoons and evenings.
The normal route for beginners nowadays is to purchase a purpose designed trainer model in the 40 class. This means it is a good compromise size, about 60 inch span and designed for a 40 2 stroke glow engine (6cc). The main structural components will be already built for you, hopefully to a high standard, leaving just the fitting out with radio gear and engine to be done. Again a club member or the staff of a good model shop will advise you in detail what is required.
Do not under any circumstances be tempted to start your modelling career with a scale Spitfire or Mustang! You have been warned. Much could be written about this aspect of model flying but there is really no substitute for hands on instruction from an experienced model flyer.
One matter which cannot be stressed enough is that of safety. Model aircrafts are potentially dangerous and can cause death or serious injury. You will be required to obtain insurance cover before being allowed to fly at our site. The good news is that substantial insurance cover is included with membership of the Scottish Aeromodellers Association with which we are affiliated and can be provided at the same time you join.
Still interested? Then don't delay. For any information feel free to contact the Club Secretary Roger Paton on 01555 665305 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Lanark Round Table
The Round Table isn’t a mysterious society characterised by secret handshakes and hidden agendas. Come along to a meeting and you will find a group of folks, from all walks of life, who are open, inclusive, and waiting to welcome you
The Round Table Movement is all about making friends, having fun, trying things you've not done before, and putting something back into your local community.
The real attraction of The Round Table Movement, however, goes far beyond this. Because what Tablers find, once they become members, is a unique combination of elements that you simply can't find in any other club.
What's in it for me?
The Round Table is all about trying a diverse range of fun activities that you wouldn't normally do as an individual, with a group of people from different backgrounds, that you wouldn't normally meet. You can learn all sorts of new skills, while making a difference community and it's not just local -- it's a global movement, with clubs in more than 65 countries, on every continent on the world.
What's in it for the community?
The Round Table in Lanark has been going strong for 49 years and over the last 18 months has donated over £12,000 to local causes and charities.

The Rotary Club of Lanark
So what do you think of the Rotary Club of Lanark? If you think about us at all you probably think of a bunch of well-meaning folk from Saga rattling cans and running events to raise money for charity. Well, you’re partially correct! We do rattle cans and run charity events, we do provide funds, mentoring and support for local charities and organisations but we do a lot more besides! And we’re not (all) eligible for Saga!
Our Rotary Club is a large group of business and professional friends who primarily like each other and enjoy each other’s company; meet on a regular basis over a tasty bite; enjoy a very busy and varied Rotary social life; and at the same time gain a great deal of fun, fellowship and laughter as we try to be of service to the community we live in and hold so dear. And please note – we’re always eager to meet and make new friends and potential members!
That’s on a local Lanark level. But our Rotary is just one of thousands all over the globe who are superbly managed and organised and able to act collectively to provide aid, care and support to the global community wherever and whenever needed. In this way we can collectively feed the starving; heal the sick; provide clean water; and eliminate disease. Not a bad aspiration is it? As an example of the last and in collaboration with Bill Gates, Rotary International has all but succeeded in totally eliminating the curse of polio and will have completed the task within 5 years max! Because Rotary Clubs worldwide are full of able, motivated volunteers – but mainly because they are volunteers – this is all achieved at no cost whatsoever to anybody other than to those kind souls who support our “can rattling and charity events” and to them we are eternally grateful! This is particularly evident during the many and sadly all too regular disasters worldwide when, thanks to this army of Rotary volunteers, every penny of every pound donated is utilised to provide and send masses of emergency materials and equipment instantly!
