The nomination window for this year’s Burgess Ticket awards is now open and the easiest way to propose someone you think deserves the accolade is through The Lanark Website.
Now in its fifth year since being revived by the Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council, this unique tradition celebrates the hard work of a wide range of local figures.
Votes must be proposed and seconded by residents of the town but nominees do not need to be born or reside in Lanark, anyone who you feel has made a valuable contribution to the community can be put forward for consideration.
You can nominate as many people as you like and have until the Saturday of Lanimer Week to get involved.
The winners will be revealed in September and Frank Gunning, chairman of the Community Council, believes that the initiative is a great way of paying tribute to the hard work of local figures.
He said: “Contrary to what you might think, it is not essential for person nominated to be resident within the Marches of Lanark. However, it is essential that both those nominating and seconding are resident within the Marches.
“The Burgess Awards are made on behalf of the Royal Burgh of Lanark in recognition of an outstanding contribution, service or benefit provided to the community that is the Royal Burgh of Lanark - even when that contribution is made by someone not resident in Lanark.
“Such service is inclusive of that provided to all individuals; groups; organisations or charities, and includes any service to the community provided by the nominee as a member of any group; organisation or charity within the Royal Burgh of Lanark.”
You can make your nomination by filling out the entry form below and your vote will be sent to the Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council for consideration.
