Lanark United sign veteran midfielder David Dunn from Newmains United

Yowes manager John Brogan is pleased to add David Dunn to his side.

Lanark United have bolstered their squad with the addition of experienced midfielder David Dunn from Newmains United.

The 34-year-old boasts a 12-year playing career in the senior ranks before stints in the juniors with Larkhall Thistle, Linlithgow Rose, Sauchie and Thorniewood United.

Dunn, who was also a coach at Newmains, was placed on the transfer list at the beginning of the year and Yowes manager John Brogan is delighted to add the midfielder to his side.

“He’s exactly the type of player we’re looking for,” Brogan said. “He’s got a good pedigree and I’m sure he’ll bring a lot to the team.”

Brogan has been searching for experience to help his promotion bid and the acquisition of Dunn, alongside ex-Yowes midfielder Gordon Murphy from Carluke Rovers, may not be the only additions that the Central District Second Division leaders make to their ranks.

Brogan said: “If someone became available and we could move a couple out to compensate we could do it. We’re always looking to strengthen, never say never.”

Dunn will revert to a playing role only at the club and will have the chance to make an immediate impact on Saturday as Lanark are set to host Newmains; if the Moor Park pitch can beat the inclement weather.

The Royal Burgh outfit are the only club in the west region alongside Girvan who are undefeated in their respective leagues and while Brogan is keen to keep their good run going, he isn’t concerned by the number of recent postponements.

He added: “You expect at this time of the year so I don’t get uptight over it. We’ve got a friendly against Thorniewood United tonight at Dalziel if the weather permits it to be on. We’ve been training in the meantime so it’s not that bad.”
