Lanark’s much-loved Paddington Bear statue will remain in the heart of the town for another 12 months, following its huge success in attracting visitors and delighting locals.
The statue, one of only three in Scotland, was originally placed in Lanark town centre as part of a UK-wide trail to celebrate the upcoming film Paddington in Peru. More than 20 benches featuring the beloved marmalade-loving bear were installed in towns and cities across the country, and Lanark’s has been so popular that it will now stay for another year.
Antonia Pompa of Discover Lanark Business Improvement District (BID) said the statue has made a noticeable impact. “Paddington has undoubtedly brought both visitors and spend to Lanark. From speaking with people stopping to take photos, it’s clear that many have made a special trip to the town to see our marmalade-loving bear,” she said.
She added that Paddington has also captured the hearts of the local community. “He has become a real favourite with residents, often joined by people looking for a quiet moment or a cheerful selfie. Social media is full of wonderful images of Paddington with both two-legged and four-legged friends, showing just how much joy he brings to Lanark every day.”
The extension ensures that Lanark will continue to enjoy the buzz and community spirit that Paddington has inspired—keeping the town firmly on the map as a destination for fans of all ages.
