When it was announced at the end of last year that the Woodpecker would be shutting its doors to the public, there was a lot of sadness that a much-loved icon of the town would be closing. Fast forward 6 months and there is renewed optimism about the future of the Woodpecker.
“When we saw the announcement that the Woodpecker would be closing, we immediately thought that it could be an opportunity for us” said Ryan Scott one of the new owners of the Woodpecker. Along with business partners Owen Sykes and Alasdair Clark, the three of them now operate the business. Ryan added “I remember when I was 18 heading out to the Woody for a night out and really enjoying it. We wanted to bring some of that fun back to the bar.”
The Woodpecker has been open for several months now, and both Ryan and Owen have been delighted by the positive response from the public. “I think one of the best compliments we received was that it felt like the old days.” said Owen.
With a wealth of experience in the industry the three business partners have big plans for the Woodpecker. Owen said, “We have a fantastic new menu that we will continue to build on.” From pub classics such as fish and chips to Sunday roasts, it is a diverse and exciting menu.
Asked if there were any plans for the immediate future, Ryan said that they were gearing up for a big summer starting with Lanimers and the introduction of a weekly quiz, which takes place on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm.
“We’re really excited about the months ahead and can’t wait to see the public reaction as we build on what has already been a busy start!” added Ryan.
