Lanark is set to be overrun by dinosaurs once again this summer as Jurassic Lanark returns from 19 June to 9 August 2026.
Organised by Discover Lanark, the popular family-friendly event invites dinosaur hunters of all ages to embark on a prehistoric adventure featuring not one, not two, but three exciting FREE trails across Lanark and beyond.
This year's event includes the much-loved Monster Trail through Lanark town centre and Castlebank Park, where visitors can track down around 20 giant dinosaurs hidden throughout the route. Younger explorers can take on the Mini Trail, spotting 13 dinosaur-themed displays in shop windows around the town. Participants who complete either trail – or both – can collect a Jurassic Lanark badge as a reward for their dino-hunting skills.
New for 2026 is the Explorer Trail, launching on 4 July. This extended adventure takes visitors beyond Lanark town centre to New Lanark, the Falls of Clyde, Langloch Farm and Lanark Agricultural Centre, where more than 15 additional prehistoric creatures are waiting to be discovered.
Trail maps will be available from the Tolbooth Lanark, High Street, Lanark (ML11 7EX), open daily from 10am to 5pm, or can be downloaded online.
Visitors should note that the route includes some steep paths and areas with limited pavement access.
Dino-Mite Weekend Fun
Adding to the excitement, Castlebank Park will host free family activities every weekend from 11am to 3pm throughout the event.
Led by the Jurassic Lanark Rangers, the activities include opportunities to meet baby dinosaurs Trixie and Tom and snap a photograph with Fergus, the roaring Tyrannosaurus Rex, who returns this year by popular demand.
Meet the Dinosaurs
Visitors will come face-to-face with a fascinating range of prehistoric creatures, from fearsome predators such as Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus and Velociraptor to giant herbivores including Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Ankylosaurus and Parasaurolophus.
Whether you're fascinated by fierce carnivores or gentle giants, Jurassic Lanark offers the chance to discover some of the most iconic dinosaurs ever to walk the Earth.
Win a Dino-Tastic Prize
Participants who complete a trail can also enter a prize draw to win a bumper dinosaur-themed bundle. Entry is simple – just return your completed trail map when collecting your badge at the Tolbooth Lanark.
